Tips for Distinguishing Genuine NHL Jerseys

June 7, 2018

More and more people are fond of hockey these days in the USA. For those people who don’t know much about NHL jerseys, I’m going to share some tips about how to distinguish genuine NHL jerseys. I hope it helps you.

Usually there are 3 kinds of Genuine NHL Jerseys. From low-end to high-end they are: Replica Jerseys, Premier Jerseys, and Authentic Jerseys. The main differences among them are: the fabric material, the number material and the cloth style.

1. The Replica. The look is to copy the Authentic, but the material and style are very different. The fabric is thin. The number, player name and team logo are offset printed. The Replica is more suitable in regular time, but the Authentic is more suitable for games, for the Authentic jersey needs to fit the protective gear. So you can say that, the Replica is for the fans, and the Authentic is for the players. In the Replica, the swinging is longer than the backswing. This kind of jersey is cheaper. A licensed Replica jersey would cost about $70.

2. The Premier/EQT Jersey. As well as Replica, this kind of jersey is also for the fans. But unlike the Replica, the Premier’s fabric is thicker. Both the numbers and player names are single embroidered. However, the team logo is still offset printed. The style of this jersey is suitable for regular wearing. The Premier’s price is around $100.

3. The Authentic. This kind of jersey is the best. All the fabric material and number material are the same as what the players wear in real hockey games. The fabric is thicker but very comfortable. All numbers are multi-embroidered. The team logo is directly sewn to the fabric. The number is very endurable and lasting, and has a strong layer effect. The Pro-cut / Pro-worn Jersey which is worn by the actual player are tailored for each player. And the style is modified according to the actual needs. But the Authentic is mass-produced. So the style is still a little bit different from the Pro-cut Jersey. The Authentic is quite expensive. It costs about $300.

Considering different jerseys are suitable for different groups of people, these NHL jerseys for fans could also be sorted in 4 types: Men, Youth, Toddle and Women. Men jersey is the most common one. It’s like a standard version. The Youth version is suitable for 8-10 years old kids to wear. And the number and NHL logo is smaller. The Toddle version has been simplified. It’s not as detailed as the Men jersey. Women jersey is more suitable for women’s figure, such as the waistline.

Moreover, we could distinguish the genuine NHL jerseys by their size writing. The Replica and Premier sizes would be: S, M, L, XL, XXL, etc. The Youth version sizes would be: Youth S (8-10), Youth S (10-12), Youth S (12-18), Youth S (18-20). The Authentic sizes would be: 44, 48, 52, etc. 48 is equal to XL, 52 is equal to XXL, and so on. This size is according to the chest measurement in inch. For example, size 44 means the chest is 44 inches, which is about 112cm. The important thing is that genuine NHL jersey size would go up 4 inches every time. The next size to 52 is absolutely 56. Only the Pro-cut / Pro-worn jersey would have sizes like 42, 46, 50, and 54. If you ever see such sizes in the Replica or Premier jerseys, it’s absolutely a fake one.
